A plant from the sunflower family of Asteraceae, this species was first cultivated in South America for its sweet leaves.
The leaves of Stevia rebaudiana contain natural, sweet-tasting and low calorie steviol glycosides 300 times sweeter than common table sugar. Can be used to replace sugar in people who require low intake of carbohydrates.
